Personal IT skills required to start training

Each teacher needs to complete this checklist before you start the programme so that we can help you put some basic skills training into place.

If these skills are not in place when you go through the checklist, don't worry as we are able to provide you with Easy ICT-Boost your PC Capability. Please contact us for more information.

Initial preparation before starting on the programme will require

  • familiarity with the equipment - CPU, memory, disk storage
  • familiarity with the type of system in use - stand-alone, networked, internet capable, CD-ROM access
  • familiarity with printer availability - operation, drivers, problems
  • familiarity with disks, files and folders on system they are working with
  • familiarity with keyboard features
  • familiarity with the use of the mouse
  • familiarity with the user interface- windows, toolbars, clip board sizing, scrolling etc
  • ability to create folders/ directories on disk
  • ability to retrieve files from disk
  • ability to access a word processing package
  • ability to create a simple document with appropriate style layout.
  • ability to make changes to documents by manipulating text
  • ability to save work to files with appropriate names
  • ability to set up their printers
  • ability to send documents to the printer, and to obtain hard copy
  • ability to make backup copies of work
